Wow, that was rock n’ roll at the 45th VMM conference on 24-26 May 2023. The applause, some of it thunderous, after the presentations showed us that: We have obviously taken the pulse of the industry with topics such as AI, Web 3.0 or gamification in retail under the motto “Retail Meta Senses”. We are proud of our great speakers Carina Buhlert, Corinna Dahlhaus, Thanh Dao, Prof.i.Vtr. Sabine Krieg, Marilyn Repp, Roger Staempfli – and we are grateful to all participants for the unique spirit that they developed and carried forward over the three days. That was a real breath of fresh air for our industry that blew across the Vitra Campus.
With Mathias Haas, the trend observer, we had the pleasure of having “the Lady Gaga among trend researchers” on stage at our WarmUp Keynote on the eve of the conference. Haas describes his work as “accompanying the future” and yet it was more than that, it was also “encouraging” people to get involved in the major changes of the next digitalisation thrust. A very exciting exchange about potentials, but also risks for the creative industry.

The aim was to bridge the gap between the daily work of visual marketing designers and the cross-channel brand experience and the tasks facing the industry with AI, Web 3.0 and gamification in retail. Under the motto “Retail Meta Senses”, we obviously hit the pulse of the industry. It’s especially nice to see after three years off: the unifying element of the VM industry is genuine passion for the wonderfully diverse world of design.

The very successful conclusion of the second day was the evening networking dinner above the rooftops of Basel. Many thanks to the Swiss polydesign3D association, which hosted us and brought the day to a more than successful close.
